Oxford Time

I was keen to listen to the CBC Ideas broadcast on Time as thought of by David Deutsch, Julian Barbour, and Roger Penrose (Sir Roger!). Getting over to the page for Living on Oxford Time, I settled in to listen to the RealPlayer-based broadcast.
While it was certainly up to CBC's standards for production and general entertainment, I was a little disappointed in that the main message about time being not unique in terms of how we think of physics, the participants only really hinted at the ideas in physics that suggest this. Barbour only alludes to the idea of superposition of states.
So, while nice to listen to, I found reading the books of the main guests to be much better. I also have found the discourse on edge.org, namely, "The Problem of Time in Quantum Cosmology" to be much more engaging.

Tim Page interview with Glenn Gould

Like many people from the early 80s, I caught the CBC documentary on Glenn Gould made shortly before his death. His music had always had a strong attraction for me, but like anyone from a small town in the pre-pre-pre-Amazon/CD Baby/CBC shops age, I didn't have access to much in terms of classical music. Sure, there must have been a specialty store in Edmonton, but getting there and finding it was a problem for a poor student.
So, after the show aired, I found myself in the U of A Students' Records store browsing for Glenn. Approaching the sales counter, the guy behind it immediately put 2 and 2 together and simply said, "Good show, eh? Sad..."
